Settle Privacy Notice
Effective date: 1 November 2026
Settle is run from Singapore by Manish Balasubramanian (UEN pending), a business registered with ACRA. Settle is made for students aged 15 and older and is marketed in Singapore. Sign-up is not blocked for people outside Singapore. The person responsible for data protection at Settle can be reached at support@settlenotes.com, which is also where to send privacy questions and requests. If you need a postal address for a legal notice, email us and we will give you one.
1. What Settle handles
Depending on how you use Settle, we handle:
- Your Telegram account and chat numbers and the first name on your Telegram account.
- The messages, captions, forwarded text, screenshots, photos, PDFs and voice notes you send, including anything in them about other people.
- Text read from your uploads, voice note transcripts, task titles and deadlines, task history, checklists, flashcards, math explanations, weak-spot topics and review reminders.
- What lets you log in to the dashboard: short-lived login links, and two cookies described in section 6.
- Your plan, subscription and payment references and billing status. Card details are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card number.
- Records we need to run, protect and fix the Service and to bill for it, such as how many things you have sent this month and what each AI request cost. These records do not contain what you sent.
Do not send sensitive information, or anything about another person, unless it is needed and you are allowed to share it.
2. Why we use it
We use this information to do what you ask, keep your account, make study help from what you send, let you log in, manage your subscription, answer your emails, stop abuse, keep the Service secure and meet legal duties.
Settle does not train or fine-tune AI models on what students send. Settle does not use what you send for anything beyond running the Service for you. If that ever changes, we will ask for your separate, optional consent first, and you can keep using the core Service without giving it.
3. Who else handles your information
Settle uses these providers:
- Telegram carries your messages, files and payment events between you and Settle.
- Meta, through its Model API Standard Services, reads your messages and files and writes the AI results. At the time of writing, Meta's terms say request content is not used to train Meta's models, and that Meta may keep it as needed for service, legal, safety and security reasons. See Meta's Model API terms.
- Supabase stores the database and your files. The project region is Singapore.
- Stripe handles web card payments. Stripe, through its Link service, is the seller of record for web card subscriptions. It collects your payment details and billing address, handles tax and payment support, and shares with Settle only what Settle needs to manage your subscription.
- Settle's own server hosts the website. We run it ourselves.
Some of these providers may handle or look at information outside Singapore. Supabase describes support access, logs and content delivery that can be outside the project region. Telegram describes cloud storage across data centres in several countries. Stripe describes transfers to the United States and other places. We do not claim that all your information stays in Singapore. When information goes outside Singapore, we rely on our contract terms with the provider to make sure it is protected to a standard comparable to Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act, as the law requires.
4. How long we keep it, and deleting it
While your account is active we keep your information so Settle can work for you. If you ask us to close your account, we delete your messages, uploads, stored files, transcripts, tasks, study material and account details. We aim to reply to you within 7 days of your request and to finish within 30 days of confirming it is you, and always within 60 days.
What deleting covers and what it does not:
- We delete the database records and the stored files linked to your account straight away when we run the deletion. We do not keep routine backups of the database, so there is no older copy to wait for. If we take a manual copy before a risky change, we delete it within 30 days.
- Payment records stay for 5 years, because we must keep business accounting records for that long, but when you ask us to delete your account we remove your Telegram and account numbers from them.
- Stripe keeps its own records of web payments, and Telegram keeps its own records of Stars payments, under their own policies. We cannot delete those for you.
- Your chat with the bot stays in your own Telegram account. You can delete it there.
Each quarter we review accounts that nobody has used for 12 months, and we may delete them.
5. Your choices and requests
You can email support@settlenotes.com to ask what Settle holds about you, get a copy, ask us to correct it, ask us to close your account, or take back any optional consent. We will ask you to confirm it is you through your own Telegram account before we share or delete anything. Some information may need to be kept where the law requires or allows it.
If you are aged 15 to 17, we try to write in plain language, and you can usually manage your own information and give your own consent if you understand this notice. A parent or guardian can email us about a student's account. Because the information belongs to the student, we will normally ask the student to confirm through their own Telegram account before we share or delete anything. If a student cannot confirm, we decide case by case and may ask for proof that you are their parent or guardian.
6. Cookies
The dashboard uses two cookies, and both are needed for it to work. One keeps you logged in and expires after seven days. The other is used for ten minutes while you decide whether to accept the Terms. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not run analytics or advertising scripts. The login page loads a script from Telegram so you can log in with Telegram, and Stripe's pages are run by Stripe, so those two companies can see that you visited them.
